Dental Bonding
Colorado Springs
Composite dental bonding can work wonders for your smile. If you have minor flaws in one or several teeth, consider this as a quick and economical way to improve your appearance.
Tooth Bonding is an excellent procedure to:
- Close small gaps
- Cover spots and stains
- Fill in small chips
How is tooth bonding done?
Composite materials are chosen which match your natural teeth in three ways:
- Color,
- Texture, and
- Translucency.
Usually it takes just one visit. The bonding material is made in a paste-like consistency so Dr. Solich can sculpt it to the right shape for your teeth. The material also comes in different degrees of translucency.
- Dr. Solich will prepare the area that’s to be repaired by lightly roughening it, which usually requires no anesthetic.
- The tooth surface is etched with a gel.
- The bonding material is applied to your teeth, often in several layers, so as to duplicate the color depth of your natural teeth.
- Dr. Solich will use a high-intensity curing light to harden it.
How long does tooth bonding last?
This depends on a lot of individual factors. For some it lasts 10 or 15 years with no apparent deterioration. For others, a little touch-up work might be needed after a couple of years.
- Most people need some touch-up work after about 5 years
Depending on how extensive your bonding work is, you might do well to have it cleaned 2 or 3 times a year by a dental hygienist skilled in bonding maintenance.
Generally, good self-care will take care of basic maintenance:
- Brush and floss daily, without exception
- Use gentle cleaning tools
- Harsh toothpaste will take the shine off the bonding and make it more susceptible to staining
- Hard brushes can scratch it
- Avoid starchy or sugary foods between meals
