For years you’ve had gaps in your smile where you’re missing a few teeth. It makes you feel like a hillbilly, and you’re getting pretty darn sick of it. You want to replace those missing teeth, but you can’t decide between implants or dentures in Colorado Springs. Which one is right for you? Let’s examine both options so you can figure out which choice suits you better.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are false teeth attached to an acrylic base that looks like gum tissue. They can be either full, where they replace an entire arch of teeth, or partial, where they attach to remaining teeth to replace missing ones. Both options restore your biting power and allow you to feel more comfortable with your smile.

What Are Dental Implants in Colorado Springs?

Dental implants are titanium posts that are inserted into the jawbone via surgery to replace missing teeth. These posts gradually fuse into the jawbone and essentially become part of your anatomy. Once you have healed from the surgery, your dentist will place a restoration, such as a crown or bridge, over the implant to make it look and feel just like a natural tooth. No one will even be able to tell it’s not your real tooth!

Are Dentures Right for Me?

If you’re missing one or more teeth, full or partial dentures could be a great way to replace them. If all of your teeth on one arch are missing, a full denture would be perfect for you and would be significantly less expensive than implants. When you go a while without replacing missing teeth, your jawbone starts to deteriorate. After a while, you may not have enough bone tissue left to support dental implants. However, this would make you a perfect candidate for dentures, since they don’t require a healthy amount of jawbone. Additionally, if you have unhealthy gums, you might not be able to sustain implants, so dentures would be great for you.

Are Dental Implants Right for Me?

Dental implants are certainly more expensive than dentures, but they are worth the investment. They are the only method of tooth replacement that stimulates the jawbone, so it does not start to deteriorate. If you only have to replace a single tooth, you may benefit from an implant instead of a partial denture just for one tooth. If you have healthy gums and jawbone, then you are good to get implants.

The choice is ultimately up to you and your dentist. If you are still unsure, ask your dentist whether implants or dentures would be right for you.
