Hilary Duff has grown up in front of our eyes as a famous singer and actress. She has graced the covers of magazines, posters, and website for most of her life. She’s shared the movie screen with icons such as Steve Martin and played concerts to thousands of adoring, screaming fans. The one thing that is always noticed in all of her projects is her radiant smile. It’s usually the first thing you notice, no matter what context she is in. It lights up her face as well as the entire room. Unfortunately, she experienced a bit of a nightmare scenario when she chipped her tooth during a recent concert. She was able to get it temporarily fixed, but when it came to a more permanent solution, she decided on porcelain veneers to fix her smile. Why would see, and perhaps you, choose to have porcelain veneers?
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Before we ask why she chose porcelain veneers, we must ask a few other questions:
- What are porcelain veneers?
- What is the procedure like to get them?
- Would they be the right choice for me?
Porcelain veneers are extremely thin, custom made shells attached to the front of your teeth in order to improve their appearance. Porcelain is the most common material used because it most closely resembles the color of natural teeth. They simply sit on top of your teeth, almost like they are simply wearing the veneers.
How Do I Get Them?
The process of getting porcelain veneers first starts with visiting the dentist office to see if you are a good candidate for them. People with over-crowded or missing teeth might benefit from other procedures before veneers are viable. If you are ready for the veneers, Dr. Solich will first gently trim back the enamel on your teeth to make room for them. He will then take an impression of your teeth and a lab will create the actual veneers. This impression will ensure a strong, snug fit you can trust. It takes about a week to create the veneers, and in that time you might wear a temporary set over your teeth. The next visit is when Dr. Solich will bond the more permanent veneers to your actual teeth using a specially colored cement to match the color of your other teeth. There will then be a follow-up appointment to check on the status of the veneers and how they are interacting with your gums. Any further adjustments will then be made if necessary.
Are Porcelain Veneers Right For Me?
Hilary Duff chose veneers because they are relatively quick, extremely effective, and involve a virtually painless procedure to install. It’s not a mystery why she chose to get them. The results speak for themselves as Hilary is as busy and smiling as much as ever. Once you consult with Dr. Solich, you can both decide if porcelain veneers are the best choice for your smile.
