How Dental Insurance Works
It is highly likely that although you and your colleagues have the same insurer, your plans are very different. From premiums to deductible to annual maximums, every policy varies. When enrolling in a dental insurance plan, you agree to pay a monthly premium. This grants you access to your benefits. Your deductible is the magic number that you must meet before your insurance company agrees to pay more for the services you receive, but don’t be fooled! Your annual maximum is how much they will pay within a calendar year, so if at any point you surpass that amount, you will be responsible for the remaining costs.
No matter which insurance provider you choose, you can expect a similar type of coverage:
- 100% preventive care covered
- 70-80% minor restorative care covered
- 50% major restorative care covered
It is important that you review this information closely before enrolling.
What is the Difference Between Dental and Medical Insurance?
There is a common question as to why dental insurance is different than medical insurance. Here’s why:
Dental insurance is used for prevention, hence, why most insurance companies cover all or most of the services that are normally considered “preventive.” These often include dental checkups and cleanings, dental sealants, fluoride treatments, and x-rays. It is highly unlikely that dental problems, should they arise, will go away on their own, which is why having this type of insurance is so important. It can significantly reduce the amount by which you pay for dental crowns, fillings, etc.
Medical insurance is designed to treat existing problems and emergency situations. While you are encouraged to visit your doctor one a year for a general exam, most individuals do not seek treatment until something is wrong.
In-Network vs. Out of Network
It is ultimately your decision as to whether you choose to see an in-network or out of network provider, but trust that you will receive the most affordable services when choosing the former. While we do accept various PPO plans, you can always call our office to find out if we are in-network with your specific insurance company.
By choosing to see an in-network provider like Exceptional Smiles by Solich, you are guaranteed the best dental care possible as well as the lowest price. We negotiate our treatments and fees with each individual insurance company to help you keep more money in your pocket while receiving excellent service.
Out of Network
If Dr. Solich is not considered an in-network provider for your insurance, not to worry! Our team will work to provide the same high-quality service and will review your policy to see how we can save you the most money.
